Need some fun? Have a donut bar with sourdough donuts and refined sugar free glazes. Healthier can still be awesome!
Party Time!!
Do you need a fun end of the school year party idea?
Birthday Party?
Graduation Party?
Tuesday afternoon Party?
This donut bar is a little messy but super fun and delicious!

Sourdough Donuts for the Win
Start with learning how to make these Sourdough Donuts. The recipe is straightforward and it makes the most beautiful silky dough. It is still delicious with added whole grains and it can be made dairy free as well.
The dough takes about 8-12 hours to double (depending on the temperature of your kitchen) but if you add ½ teaspoon granulated yeast you can cut the rise time in half. Do what works best for your schedule.

Glazes and Toppings
After your dough is underway, you can make some glazes. I made a white glaze and a chocolate glaze.
In addition to the glazes, I had powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar as well as sprinkles and chopped nuts. These are the sprinkles I bought – they don’t have any artificial dyes and that is a big deal for the little people in my home. They do have sugar so do what is best for your family.
Set everything up, fry up your donuts and let your party people dip and decorate!

Donut Bar Toppings
Vanilla Glaze
3 cups powdered sugar (turbinado made into powdered sugar or maple sugar work well, see powdered sugar section)
1/3 – 1/2 cup warm water
1 teaspoon vanilla, optional
In a medium sized bowl, add all the ingredients, starting with the lower amount of water. Mix well. Add more water to reach desired consistency.
Chocolate glaze
3 cups powdered sugar (turbinado made into powdered sugar or maple sugar work well, see powdered sugar section)
1/2 cup cocoa powder
5-6 tablespoons milk (I use almond milk)
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
In a medium sized bowl, put the cocoa through a sifter to get rid of the lumps or don’t and just stir it in and hope for the best! Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl and stir well. Add extra milk until you reach desired consistency.
Cinnamon sugar with coconut sugar
1 cup coconut sugar
1/4 cup cinnamon
Add to a bowl and stir, stir, stir.
Powdered sugar with turbinado sugar or maple sugar
Add 1-2 cups turbinado sugar or maple sugar to a high powered blender. If desired, you can add 1 tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder per one cup of sugar – it helps keep it from clumping together but it isn’t necessary. Blend on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the sugar becomes a fine powder. Use in the recipes above or dip donuts directly into the powder.
