A sensationally, simple sauce that will elevate your next homemade pizza to a higher level, wowing all who try it!

A Good Recipe is Important

Pizza sauce may seem like a simple ingredient, but it can make a big difference in the taste of your homemade pizza. While we may not always notice the sauce on our pizza, a delicious sauce can elevate the entire dish.

In the past, I used to use any jar of spaghetti sauce lying around, until I tried a pizza with a particularly tasty sauce. It made me realize the importance of a good pizza sauce.

Sweet or Not So Sweet

Personally, I prefer my pizza sauce to be slightly sweet. This recipe is not overly sweet, but it is sweeter than some other recipes you may find. You can adjust the amount of sweetener added to suit your preference.

This recipe is very easy to make and takes just a few minutes. Simply add all the ingredients into a blender and blend for 30 seconds. After that quick blend, it is ready to be spread on your favorite crust.

Crust Recipes

If you need a homemade pizza crust, I have a recipe for our very favorite gluten free crust here or an awesome multigrain pizza crust here.

Both are simple and delicious and pair perfectly with this sauce.

It is Great to Freeze

Another great attribute of this sauce is its freezability. I often double the recipe and freeze the leftovers for a future pizza night.

I recommend freezing it in one-cup increments in a flat Ziploc bag for easy defrosting.

If you don’t want to freeze it or if you would like to make it ahead of time, the completed sauce can last about four days in your fridge.

Simple Pizza Sauce

14-oz can tomatoes, diced or whole

3-oz tomato paste (about 5 tablespoons)

1 1/2 tablespoon coconut sugar

1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/8-1/4 teaspoon salt

Pepper

Pinch of crushed red pepper

Tweak It Notes

  • Sweetener – I have used honey in this recipe, its flavor comes through especially strong and so I usually half the amount of sweetener, if I use honey. You can also use maple syrup or throw in a couple dates.
  • Tomatoes – If you are allergic to tomatoes, this is not the recipe for you. However, I have made pizza with both hummus and pesto and though they don’t replicate tomato sauce, they are both delicious in their own way.
