Quick, easy and irresistibly refreshing, this dairy free, refined sugar free smoothie is your new perfect guilt free family dessert.

Heat Wave

We just got back from a two-week trip to visit my parents in Illinois. They were having a surprisingly cool July. It was so nice! Most days were spent outside playing and walking around. The kids enjoyed Grandpa’s zip-line and the creek the most!

It was nice to get home but the heat right now is oppressive! It is no surprise that Arizona is hot and we did choose to live here, but really!! 116 degrees for five days straight is a little much!

We are swimming everyday and if we aren’t swimming in a pool, we are swimming in our own sweat. It’s really quite lovely.

Easy and Adaptable

This is one of our favorite, quick frozen treats. It has no refined sugar, comes together quickly and is delicious. It requires only a few ingredients and a good blender. And best of all right now – it cools us off!

The recipe is also adaptable. If you want to add other frozen fruit, you totally can. The options really are endless – frozen strawberries, frozen mango, frozen banana, frozen pineapple.

Another addition you can make is to add a leafy green. We like spinach, but kale or collard greens work well too. It turns the whole thing a bright vibrant green and the kids love it. Hulk Slushy!

Impressive to Boot

I made this once for some missionaries visiting our home and the young man thought it was the best treat he had ever had!

I felt a little guilty because he thought I had performed some amazing feat in the kitchen when really it was just easy and quick!

This recipe requires orange juice concentrate. I have tried to make it with the fresh orange juice off my backyard orange trees but it doesn’t work quite the same. The concentrate helps boost the orange flavor without making it runny.

I hope you love it as much as we do!

Orange Julius

3 cups ice cubes

6 oz orange juice concentrate

2-3 tablespoons maple syrup

1 cup milk – we use almond milk

Instructions

Add all ingredients to a high powered blender. Blend until smooth. If you need to add a little bit more milk to get it smooth do so in small increments. Serve immediately. It gets runny quickly because of the ice.

OPTIONS:

  • Add 1 cup spinach for a “Hulk slush.”
  • Add 1 cup frozen strawberries, bananas, mango or pineapple in place of 1 of the cups of ice cubes.
  • Use coconut milk for a pina colada vibe.
